SOLID STATE

The solid state is chahacterized by its incompressibilty , rigidity and machanical strength . Or It is a state in which , the constituent atoms / molecules or ions are not free to show translatory motion and are closely packed .

                          

CHARACTERISTICS OF SOLIDS 

(1) Solids are rigid , almost imcompressible and have high density and mechanical strength .

(2) They have definite shape , mass and volume . Their shape is characteristics and is independent to the shape of container .

(3) The constituent atoms /ions /molecules have fixed positions and are not able to show translatory motion owing to strong interparticle forces .

(4)On heating , solids melt into liquids and the temprature  at which melting is noticed at 1 atm pressure is known as melting point of solids .
